Deft
Joseph Q a.k.a. DJQ a.k.a DJQAP has been interested in music
since he was a toddler. In the third grade he played
violin for Grove Park Elementary School's Orchestra. As
early as 1979 DJQ began developing his interest in DJYING
via the emerging Hip Hop and House music cultures. He
credits songs like "Rapper Delight", "The Message",
"Jack Your Body", movies like "Beat Street",
"Wild Style", and DJS like Grand Master Flash,
Terry T, Jazzy Jeff, and Frank Ski as part of his motivation
towards the DJ culture.
As
early as 1982 DJQ was mixing records by "Jimmying"
his mothers hi fi system between the radio and phono selection,
so that he could mix his records with the radio. He
purchased his first set of turntables (Gemini Belt Drives)
in 1985 and began developing his mixing style of "You
Say It, We Play It."
In
1987 DJQ Audio Productions was formed to help DJQ pay for
college related expenses. In 1992 DJQ began a Friday
night residency at Baltimore's Infamous "File Mile House."
After his residency at the File Mile House he concentrated
his activities on mobile/club disk jockeying and audio services
for over 52 Mid-Atlantic public and private events, and/or
clubs annually.
His client list includes the City of Baltimore, All Maryland
County/City Public Schools, MD Institute of Art, Loyola University,
Johns Hopkins University, University of Maryland, Bowie State,
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Morgan State University, Delaware State,
and many, many private organizations and schools. In
1997 DJQ established a working relationship with WERQ-92Q
Jams' Party Posse Street Team.
All
of these endeavors allow DJQ to play to multitudes of audiences
thus allowing him to boast that he has played to "Over
100,000 satisfied customers."
